Adopt a Cat in Christchurch
Cat Rescue Christchurch is an independent Charitable Trust that focuses on reducing stray cat overpopulation by using the trap-neuter-return (TNR) method. Homeless cats and kittens who can be socialised are desexed and rehomed.
Cat Rescue Christchurch also promotes the desexing of companion and stray cats whom people are feeding, and the early neutering of kittens before being re homed from any adoption facility.
ADOPT
See our website for cats and kittens looking for good forever homes. Cat
Rescue Christchurch asks for an adoption fee for all cats and kittens, which
covers de-sexing, microchipping, worming, flea treatment and at least their
first vaccination. Each cat and kitten also comes with their own collar and ID
tag. Every cat and kitten re-homed from Cat Rescue is de-sexed before adoption.
DONATE
Cat Rescue Christchurch relies on donations from generous
people to fund its work. Donations are used to cover vet bills for desexing
cats, medication for sick cats and for equipment such as trapping cages and
large holding cages. Vet bills are typically between $5,000 and $7,500 per
month so donations of any amount are always needed.
Regular automatic payment donors are also sought to help ensure a regular income for vet bills.
If you would like to make a donation to Cat Rescue Christchurch (any amount is appreciated), you can do so via direct transfer, automatic payment, cheque or credit card on our website or by using the Give A Little widget below.
Cat Rescue Christchurch is run completely by volunteers. We do not have a shelter but we have fosterers who look after and socialise cats and kittens in their own homes until they are ready for adoption.
Volunteers are also required to help with the following:
- Trapping cats for neutering
- Admin work
- Promoting early desexing
- Fundraising and holding info stalls
- Transporting cats to and from the vet

- Beki says "Cat Rescue Christchurch are a fantastic group of volunteers always trying to do their best for the stray cats of Christchurch love their NO Kill policy =]"
- Manda says "Cat Rescue Christchurch gives hope to all the cats and kittens lost and forgotten....especially appreciated is the fact they desex kittens and cats before placing them in new homes. This is a responsible step towards fixing the problem of unwanted offspring, and quite often something a lot of people can't afford to do!!"
- Wendy says "I adopted a gorgeous wee teenager from Cat Rescue earlier this year and I just love her to bits. It was fantastic to get one that was already toilet trained and was desexed and even microchipped which I was so grateful for with the earthquakes. They seem to be a great organisation in that all their kittens are desexed before adopting out. Very responsible attitude. I am all for that. Her name is Muffin and she is the cutest thing. Couldn't change her name as it is so perfect for her. Thank you Cat Rescue. I think you are all doing a wonderful job especially considering you are all volunteers. "
