Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust
Swanson
The Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust (Mobility Dogs) is a registered charitable trust. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people living with physical disabilities increasing independence, confidence, self-esteem and participation in New Zealand communities.
Mobility dogs are partnered with people living with long term physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and spinal cord injuries.
Mobility dogs are trained in special tasks to provide functional assistance with everyday tasks including: fetching the phone, retrieving dropped items or items out of reach, barking for help, opening doors, pressing lift and pedestrian crossing buttons, paying for purchases across the counter, taking shoes on and off, switching lights on and off, loading and unloading washing machines and driers, and more . . . depending on the recipient's needs.
Mobility dogs not only increase indepedence, but also offer companionship, a greater sense of security and a feeling of connectedness to the community.
